Austin PR for energy and hardware founders

Since the 2025 funding record, Austin Inno and the Statesman tech desk get more round announcements than they can run, and a raise alone rarely wins the story.

Pocket PR, a remote team in Kyiv and Brno, pitches those desks and the Texas energy press around what the money pays for and who it hires in Central Texas.

Grid and battery stories in Austin

The biggest round in Austin's history did not go to software.

Base Power, a home battery company, raised a $1 billion Series C in October 2025.

Saronic raised $600 million that year and Apptronik $415 million.

Crunchbase links the city's 2025 record to defense tech and robotics as well as energy tech.

Deal count fell from 312 in 2024 to 272 in 2025 while the dollars rose. Reporters now see fewer rounds, each one larger.

A seed raise needs a local hook to compete.

The grid is the hook that reaches past the business pages.

A company that helps Texans keep the power on has a route into local TV news and into the Texas Tribune, the newsroom that follows grid regulation at the Legislature.

The Texas Energy Summit, 26 to 28 October 2026 at the Texas Capitol, puts grid stories in front of state policy reporters.

CERAWeek in Houston runs 8 to 12 March 2027, a week before SXSW opens.

Outside energy, two angles keep landing. Suppliers to Tesla or Dell read as local news, and so do founders who left those companies.

Original data about Texas customers works too, because the Business Journal can chart it.

A relocation counts when it comes with named jobs and a signed lease.

Defense founders also pass through Capital Factory, the Austin hub that also runs STATION DC in Washington.

When SXSW helps an Austin story

SXSW EDU and SXSW run 13 to 21 March 2027, with the Innovation conference from 15 to 20 March.

National press arrives and local desks fill up. A festival story goes out in February.

Unrelated hard news waits until April, when Austin reporters have room again.

October is the other crowded month. Austin Tech Week runs 26 to 30 October 2026, and its pitch day falls on 28 October, the same week as the Texas Energy Summit.

Austin keeps Central Time, seven hours behind Brno. Pitches leave in the European afternoon and arrive around 8 a.m., before The Beat goes out. Funding embargoes lift early in the Central morning.

Austin desks and what each one wants

Austin television picks up business news when it touches residents.

KXAN often reruns Austin Business Journal reporting, so one Journal story can reach a TV audience without a second pitch.

What Austin agencies charge before you sign

Austin agencies rarely publish rate cards.

AM World Group, an Austin firm, lists emerging agencies at $3,000 to $8,000 a month and mid-size firms at $8,000 to $20,000.

Austin offices of national agencies start from $20,000. DesignRush puts most local hourly rates at $150 to $200.

Pocket PR starts from $390 a month, and our PR cost breakdown compares the US bands.

From Kyiv to the Austin news cycle

  1. Round news for the Inno and ABJ cycle

We package funding news so Austin Inno can run it the same afternoon and the Business Journal can follow with the bigger picture.

  2. A SXSW calendar that starts in January

We book March interviews in February, before 13 March 2027, and keep hard news out of festival week when local desks are full.

  3. Grid and defense angles for Texas press

We tie Austin hardware and energy companies to state stories that the Texas Tribune and Texas Monthly already follow.

A battery round timed for October in Austin

A battery startup closing a Series A in October

Situation
An Austin home battery company with a Ukrainian engineering team closes a Series A in the same month as Austin Tech Week and the Texas Energy Summit.
What we do
We give Austin Inno the round under embargo for the afternoon newsletter, offer the Statesman tech desk a founder interview on grid reliability, and pitch the Texas Tribune an explainer on home batteries and state power rules.
Outcome
Three stories, each on its own angle, instead of one release copied by aggregators. Illustrative, not a client result.

Questions

What Austin founders ask before hiring PR

How much does a PR firm in Austin cost?

Published Austin guides put smaller agencies at $3,000 to $8,000 a month and mid-size firms at $8,000 to $20,000. Austin offices of national agencies start around $20,000.

Which Austin outlets cover startup funding?

Start with Austin Inno and the Business Journal. Silicon Hills News takes seed rounds, while the Statesman technology desk wants founder interviews.

Should I pitch Austin media during SXSW?

Only with a SXSW story. In festival week local reporters are booked, so launches land better in late February or April.

Do Austin reporters cover companies based outside Texas?

Yes, when there is a local hook. An Austin office with local hires counts. So does a Texas customer, or a Texas investor such as Capital Factory.

What sectors get the most attention in Austin right now?

Crunchbase named defense tech and robotics among the sectors behind the 2025 funding record, along with energy tech. Local press follows that money.
